How do you test a multi-player Roblox game that’s yet to be launched? You join in the fun! Our very own Dubit Studio wanted to test the appeal and usability of a Roblox game called Ripple Reef so we set up eight user testing sessions with kids aged 7-13 years.
As well as having a moderator in the room with each child to observe and ask questions of them, we sent a second undercover moderator into the game itself to act as a stooge player in avatar form. This meant the participant could experience realistic gameplay and act out specific missions involving other players.
The research uncovered repetitive pain points and areas in which the game could be developed to improve overall engagement.
